HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

It seems a bit funny to only have one week to show appreciation to teachers because the work they do is important ALL year long! However, we are happy that these under appreciated members of our community get at least a week of national recognition every year.

This year, National Teacher Appreciation Week runs from May 8th to May 12th. This week is dedicated to thank educators for the work they do to keep classrooms running and students learning.

National Teacher Appreciation Week is an important time to support and encourage our educators. Through teaching they are building the future generations in our city and country, and that is A LOT of pressure to put on a group of individuals. Thus, we spend a week appreciating them!

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK GIFT IDEAS

Gift Cards for Teachers

One great way to show your teachers appreciation is through a gift. Some people give mugs, chocolates, or even gift baskets. An excellent idea for a gift would be a gift card. Popular places to get gift cards in Salt Lake City are coffee shops like Cafe Expresso or Cupla Coffee and soda shops like Swig and Fizz. Target is also always a great choice when it comes to gift cards for teachers!

Thank You Notes for Teachers

As mentioned above, some of the best gifts don’t cost money. Writing thank you cards to educators is a great way to show your appreciation and support for the work they do.

Parents and guardians can always write thank you notes, but it is also a great idea to encourage children to write a thank you note to a teacher to show their appreciation. When writing a thank you card, let the educator know why you specifically appreciate them.

Volunteer at a School

Another cost-free way to show appreciation to educators is volunteering at a local school. Some volunteering options include chaperoning a field trip, tutoring after school, monitoring a playground, mentoring, or organizing fundraising activities.

Some schools even allow parents to volunteer to help out in the classroom during school hours. If you want to volunteer at a local school but don’t know what you can do for them, call and ask! Most schools will give you some options of where you can volunteer.

FREE FOR TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

During National Teacher Appreciation Week, educators can take advantage of some great deals on food and drinks. In addition, there are several retailers who offer teacher discounts year-round.

Discounts at Restaurants for Teachers

In addition to free admission, there are also some fantastic deals for educators to enjoy their favorite restaurants. During teacher appreciation week, teachers can get a free medium sub of choice with the purchase of any medium or large sub, chips, and drink, at Firehouse Subs nationwide.

For a quick meal, Sonic is offering a free cheeseburger for educators that enroll in their Sonic Teachers’ Circle. If you just need a quick pick me up, grab a free drink at McDonald’s.

Don’t forget dessert! Freddy’s Frozen Custard is giving teachers a free sundae between May 8th and May 12th.

Discounts at Stores for Teachers

Educators can also benefit from some discounts at retailers. Michaels is offering 15% off for teachers all week and Office Depot is providing 20% off.

Beyond teacher appreciation week, many retailers support teachers with educator discounts all year long. The Container Store is offering teachers 15% off through the end of the school year, and Barnes and Noble and Samsung provide teacher discounts all year round!

THANK A TEACHER

It is essential to support our city’s educators. They are building our future every day. Let’s take the time this year to support and validate the time and energy they put into their work.

We can do this by buying them gifts like gift cards, writing them thank you letters, or volunteering for them at a local school. If you are a business and can afford it, consider giving our educators a discount for National Teacher Appreciation Week (or all year long) so they can get the recognition they deserve.

Most importantly, be kind to the teachers in our community because they are working hard every day to teach our children and shape them into our future leaders.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all of the educators out there! We appreciate you!
